The first thing most of us notice about a room, even before the furniture, is the walls. The emotional content of the colors, the patterns that subtly influence our thinking, the amount of light reflected around the room, all of these are features that are essentially automatically assessed when we enter a space. When you’re a guest the effect may be a bit more consciously noticeable, but when you live in a space it shapes you more subtly over the course of years. Often we barely notice the effect of our walls on us because there’s almost nothing to notice. Many opt for neutral walls.
